Crews have poured a concrete foundation for the tower crane coming to Piston Peak National Park at Magic Kingdom. We saw the base of the crane installed a few days ago.

The foundation is a platform around the base that will better support the immense crane. A tower crane is a more permanent structure at a construction site, used to transport large elements. The installation of the crane indicates vertical construction is on the horizon.

The only vertical construction so far has been the creation of the concrete retaining wall, which runs along the edge of the Piston Peak site from Big Thunder Mountain Railroad to the former Riverboat Landing.
Disney recently extended a permit for demolition and utilities work in the Piston Peak National Park area. The Cars-themed extension to Frontierland replaces Tom Sawyer Island. It will have two attractions, including an off-road rally race ride.
