The shingles atop Das Kaufhaus in EPCOT’s Germany pavilion have been removed for a complete renovation.

The shingles atop Das Kaufhaus in EPCOT's Germany pavilion have been removed for a complete renovation.

We noticed on Tuesday morning, July 28 that the main roof and one of the towers no longer have red shingles. Instead, the roofing is covered by brown scrims.

The shingles that covered the roof were just like those remaining on the right tower and other rooftops in the Germany pavilion. Das Kaufhaus is one of the gift shop facades on the east side of the pavilion.

Crews have been performing brief interior renovations on the gift shops alongside facade work. The Germany pavilion restrooms are closed. Disney filed a construction permit for the pavilion in early July.

Other rooftops in the pavilion have damage and rot so Disney may replace those shingles, too.
