After being turned off for more than a year, the doors that lead outside and onto Test Track’s high-speed outdoor section are once again operating at EPCOT.

Test Track Doors Operating Again

A Test Track car hit the doors of the ride’s climactic scene during Cast Member previews on Monday, June 30, 2025. After that incident, the sliding doors were disabled, leaving a continuous view to the outside, and the ride has been operating without the effect since then.

The doors are made of breakaway foam in case of this exact incident. The scene in the original Test Track was the climactic barrier test, where vehicles accelerated towards the closed wall of doors that dramatically opened at the last second before sending guests outside into the sunlight.

On this newest reimagining of the ride, Test Track no longer tells that same story, and the only practical purpose of the doors is now to keep the outdoor light from illuminating the final interior scene.

We noticed on our ride through today that the doors open much earlier in the acceleration sequence, now reducing much of the near-miss thrill of the previous effect.

Test Track opened at EPCOT in 1998 as a replacement for the opening-day Omnimover ride World of Motion. Infamously, Test Track had a difficult testing period, with a car even flying off the tracks (the car was filled with sandbags and had no riders) and hitting a wall.
