Spider-Man: Brand New Day has spun a new all-time box office record from preview screenings alone.

According to Variety, the Sony and Marvel Studios film earned $72 million from domestic previews, including Wednesday evening early-access presentations and Thursday showings beginning at noon.
The total represents the largest preview gross in box office history, surpassing the $60 million collected by Avengers: Endgame in 2019. It is also the biggest preview performance ever for a Sony Pictures release and the largest since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tom Holland’s previous solo outing, Spider-Man: No Way Home, earned $50 million from previews in December 2021. That film went on to generate $121 million on its full opening day and $260.1 million across its domestic opening weekend.
The latest adventure for Spider-Man was previously forecast to deliver the biggest opening weekend of 2026. The movie also entered its debut weekend with a strong critical reception, earning a score just under 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Brand New Day is now expected to earn between $260 million and $280 million during its first weekend in North America. Reaching the lower end of that range would place it alongside No Way Home as one of the largest domestic debuts ever, behind only the $357.1 million record held by Avengers: Endgame.
The movie is also expected to surpass $100 million on Friday with its preview earnings included. Only five previous releases have achieved a nine-figure domestic opening day: Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Avengers: Infinity War, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
The record-setting start follows months of intense interest in Peter Parker’s return. Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues the character’s story after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which ended with the world forgetting Peter Parker’s identity.
Holland returns alongside Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds. The cast also includes Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher, Michael Mando as Mac Gargan/Scorpion, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, and Sadie Sink in a previously undisclosed role.
The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now playing in theaters.
