Universal Studios Hollywood has reportedly pushed back the opening of its new roller coaster, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift due to major noise complaints from the surrounding neighbors.

Universal Studios Hollywood Has Delayed Opening of Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift Due to Noise Complaints

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift at Universal Studios Hollywood is set to open soon. It has 4,100 feet of track, sound reduction technology, and 360-degree rotation to create the sensation of drifting. The cars are styled after iconic sports vehicles from the Universal Pictures film franchise, including Dominic Toretto’s 1970 Dodge Charger.

FOX 11 Los Angeles reports that test runs with humans have sent screams echoing into nearby residential areas and this has prompted locals to demand immediate noise control.

During testing on an exclusive employee preview night, where the ride reached top speeds of 72 miles an hour, loud intermittent screams carried across the nearby Lakeside Golf course and into the surrounding Toluca Lake neighborhood.

Residents living in the Toluca Lake area, which is known for legendary estates such as the former Bob Hope mansion, have expressed frustration over the sound.

One resident said of the noise:

“It not only echoes it blasts all over the golf course and into the neighborhood. So it’s extremely disruptive. This is what it’s supposed to sound like here and this is why we live in this neighborhood for peace and quiet. We all understand it’s a giant studio that cares about making money, but at what cost at destroying a beautiful neighborhood? It’s ridiculous,”

Park representatives are welcoming input from the surrounding community as they will continue to test and monitor sound levels through the fall.

Another version of Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is currently under construction in Universal Studios Florida. It replaces Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, which closed in August 2025.
