Alan Menken Teases New Song for 'Tangled' Stage Show

At D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Disney Legend Alan Menken performed a new song from the stage adaptation of Tangled.

D23 shared the following preview of the song on social media. Apparently titled “Say Goodbye,” the song is for the moment Rapunzel realizes all the damage Mother Gothel has done.

Menken wrote the songs for the original 2010 Tangled film. He wrote additional songs for Disney Cruise Line’s Tangled stage adaptation and Tangled: The Series.

He’s also known for his musical contributions to The Little Mermaid (1989), Beauty and the Beast (1991), Aladdin (1992), Newsies (1992), Pocahontas (1995), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996), Hercules (1997), and Enchanted (2007), as well as the stage adaptations of several of these films.

We learned Disney on Broadway was developing a Tangled stage adaptation two years ago. At the 2026 EPCOT International Festival of the Arts, Ashley Brown teased the stage show, performing “When Will My Life Begin” with a new verse, likely written by Menken.
