Nearly 20 years after The Simpsons first reached the big screen, Disney has shared an extremely early look at their next theatrical adventure.

Disney President and Chief Creative Officer Dana Walden presented the first footage from The New Simpsons Movie during the D23 Entertainment Showcase. However, Walden was first introduced by Bart Simpson himself.
Variety shared a short clip of the mixed-media interaction on X. In the short animated segment, Bart addressed the D23 audience while sitting on the familiar couch inside the Simpsons’ living room. He jokingly referred to the assembled Disney fans as “nerds” before bringing Walden into the presentation.
Walden then introduced the first preview of the sequel, which remains early in production.
“What you’re going to see is very rough,” Walden warned the audience. “We normally wouldn’t show you something this early, but Bart insisted.”
The footage was consequently presented largely as a rough animatic, with unfinished animation and production artwork offering a look at how one of the film’s sequences is developing.
Our First Look at The New Simpsons Movie
The sequence begins with Homer attending a baseball game alongside several of his coworkers. Hoping to catch a stray ball from his spot in the stands, Homer cheers, “Make Homer rich!”
On the next pitch, a ball is hit into the stadium, landing near Hans Moleman and then ricocheting through the venue as Homer and other baseball fans take chase an increasingly elaborate pursuit. The frenzy takes him through bathrooms and luxury suites before he surfs atop the Squeaky-Voiced Teen over a river of nacho cheese before exiting the stadium.
Homer follows the ball out into the streets of Springfield as a helicopter tracks the growing chase. The baseball smashes through the window of Moe’s Tavern, then continues through Barney’s Bowlarama, and into the Duff Brewery, attracting a crowd of familiar Springfield residents along the way. Homer swims through the brewery’s beer tanks before the tanks explode and launch him back toward the baseball field.
After Homer’s prolonged effort, the ball finally lands at Bart’s feet. Bart casually picks it up, prompting Homer and the assembled crowd to shout, “D’oh!”
Although the sequence does not reveal the film’s broader story, it offers the first indication of the sequel’s scale and comedic style. The extended chase uses numerous Springfield locations and supporting characters, suggesting the filmmakers intend to leverage more of The Simpsons supporting cast and familiar locales.
Officially titled The New Simpsons Movie, the sequel is scheduled to arrive in theaters on September 3, 2027. Its release will come just over 20 years after the original The Simpsons Movie premiered in July 2007.
