Reimagined Tomorrowland Announced for Disneyland
Inspired by Walt’s original optimistic vision, there will be new attractions and new open spaces. This project is just getting started, and no plans have been formalized at this stage.

History of Tomorrowland
Tomorrowland was one of the five original opening day lands at Disneyland Park on July 17,
1955, and it expressed through Tomorrowland’s attractions the optimism and hope with which Walt viewed the future. Tomorrowland was rebuilt and reopened in 1967, reimagining the land with the “World on the Move” vision.
Space Mountain opened in May 1977, introducing Disneyland guests to a groundbreaking
indoor roller coaster experience that combined high-speed thrills with immersive space-
themed storytelling. The attraction is one of the park’s most popular rides and remains a
landmark destination for visitors from around the world.
Tomorrowland was reimagined again in the late 1990s and reopened again in May 1998, with a retro-futuristic design with bronze, gold, and brown tones marking the land’s last significant overhaul. The centerpiece was the Rocket Rods, a high-speed thrill ride that replaced the PeopleMover. Rocket Rods had to close only two years later due to structural concerns and the PeopleMover track has remained unused ever since.
For the 50th anniversary of Disneyland, Tomorrowland was repainted in a white, blue, and silver color scheme as a return to the original color scheme. Space Mountain received a full track replacement in 2005, and Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters debuted the same year. Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage opened in 2007, which is also when the Monorails were substantially updated. Star Tours closed in 2010 to be refreshed, reopening as Star Tours – The Adventures Continue in 2011. Autopia saw a refresh in 2016 with a new storyline and color scheme, powered by Honda.
