Crews are sculpting rocky columns in the new Tropical Americas land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Tropical Americas Themed Rockwork

Pictured above is one of the large columns, alongside small theming samples crews are using for reference. Since our last update, the large column has been further carved to look more realistic. Painting may have also begun.

This column is at the land’s northern entrance, near Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond! It began as a concrete column erected back in June.

From another angle, we can see more rocky elements. Crew members were working on the largest. It looks like these are being themed to an ancient ruined wall that has partially collapsed, corresponding to wall elements in the Tropical Americas model.

The rock walls and columns are in approximately the same spot as the curved and square archways near the bottom of this photo of the model.

Crews are also creating natural-looking rockwork around the Encanto and Indiana Jones rides. We learned at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event that the land’s rides are named Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto, Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent, and El Carrusel de los Animalitos.
