The Walt Disney Company has announced that they are beta testing AI-powered search tools for their Disney+ and ESPN platforms.

Disney+ and ESPN Testing AI-Powered Search Tools

Disney notes that the beta testing is occurring with a small subset of users and is trying to address the specific use case when someone can describe what they’re looking for but can’t pinpoint exactly what it is. The goal is that these AI-powered features can help Disney suggest more targeted improvements for results, recommendations, and navigation in the future based on how users interact with the system.

For the ESPN platform, the AI-assisted ESPN Search is being tested. As shown in the GIF, fans can ask sports questions using natural language and receive answers, related content, statistics, and recommendations from the AI assistant, drawing upon ESPN’s vast sports knowledge and research.

On the Disney+ side, teams are testing an experiment with a small group of subscribers to explore a more natural way for the users to express what they’re looking for.

Sometimes, a subscriber might want to watch something that doesn’t align with their typical viewing habits. The new AI-powered tool helps users receive recommendations on their immediate viewing needs, like searching for movies and shows with summer vibes, as shown in the previous GIF. Users can use natural language or voice input, as well as one of the suggested prompts, to recommend content outside of their viewing history recommendations.
