Disney Debunks Rumors That Avatar Land is Canceled for Disney California Adventure Ahead of D23

Disney has debunked the rumor that the Avatar land is canceled for Disney California Adventure.

Avatar Land Rumor Debunked

Pandora – World of Avatar was confirmed to be headed to California in a 2023 earnings call. Then, at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in 2024, a model and concept art were shown, and the boat ride was revealed.

To make way for this new experience, Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! was set to close in “early 2026.” However, Disney announced that it will remain open into 2027, with younger families in mind who have limited offerings at the park.

The lack of information from Disney in the last few years has made us wonder if the land was going to happen at all. We even predicted we may get some type of update at the upcoming D23 event.

However, Disney shared an updated graphic of the experiences coming to Disney Parks and Resorts, and “Avatar Experience” is still listed. So, at this time, it appears the Avatar land is still in the works.

The experience will further explore the world of Pandora with a new destination. It takes inspiration from Avatar: The Way of Water and future Avatar films, setting it apart from Pandora – The World of Avatar in Florida.

The land will be in Disney California Adventure, reportedly utilizing some existing space in Hollywood Land and some space not currently in the park. It’s rumored to use the same ride system as Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure at Shanghai Disneyland, supported by the newly-released concept art. This further distinguishes it from the calm Na’vi River Journey at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
