Disney has filed an extension for construction at the former Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser building, which is being converted into Walt Disney Imagineering offices.

A permit for “General Construction” at the building’s address (201 S Studio Dr) contracts Balfour Beatty Construction LLC. The permit is identical to one filed on August 26 last year, indicating this “new” permit is actually an extension of the now expired permit. It will now expire on August 25, 2027.

The permit was filed by Disney’s Facility Asset Management team rather than Walt Disney Imagineering, which means more general maintenance rather than thematic changes.

However, thematic changes are underway. Or rather, theming is being removed from the hotel.

Walt Disney Imagineering filed a permit earlier this year, also contracting Balfour Beatty for construction at an administration building next to the main hotel.

Disney announced in January 2025 that the closed hotel would become offices.

The immersive cruise-style Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser experience opened on March 1, 2022. It was met with mixed reviews, generally agreeing with our own review stating the live entertainment was magical and the overall experience changed the industry for the better but it was overpriced. Reports indicated Galactic Starcruiser never made a profit and had lower occupancy rates than expected. It closed permanently on September 30, 2023.
