A family is suing Disney Cruise Line after their daughter allegedly fell through a gap beside an upper bunk bed and broke both of her wrists aboard the Disney Wonder.
Questionable Safety Standards on Disney Cruise Line?
According to cruise news site Cruise Hive, the child was sleeping in a Murphy-style upper bunk during an Alaska cruise when she rolled over at approximately 1:00 a.m. and fell to the stateroom floor. The lawsuit alleges that the bunk’s guardrail did not extend across the full length of the mattress, leaving a gap through which the child fell.
The accident in question occurred on the night of July 30, 2024, almost two years prior to the lawsuit being filed on May 18, 2026. The fall reportedly fractured both of the child’s wrists. One fracture involved a growth plate, raising concerns about potential long-term complications as the child continues to grow.
The family alleges Disney Cruise Line knew, or reasonably should have known, that the bunk-bed configuration presented a dangerous condition. The complaint accuses Disney of failing to adequately inspect and maintain the bed, correct the alleged hazard, or warn the family about the opening beside the guardrail.
The family is seeking more than $50,000 in damages for medical care, pain and suffering, permanent disability, and other alleged losses. They have also requested a jury trial.

Of course, the claims are allegations, and no court has yet determined Disney Cruise Line to be liable. Disney has not publicly responded to the lawsuit at the time of publication.
The case follows several other incidents involving guests falling from Disney Cruise Line ships, though they are unrelated to the bunk-bed allegations. In June 2025, a 5-year-old girl fell overboard from the Disney Dream after losing her balance on a railing and falling backward through an open porthole.
Her father jumped into the ocean after her, and Disney Cruise Line crew members rescued both guests. Authorities later determined that the incident was accidental and declined to file child-neglect charges against the girl’s mother.
In a separate November 2025 incident, a 73-year-old passenger died after jumping overboard from the Disney Wonder while the ship was crossing the Tasman Sea. A five-hour search involving thermal-imaging equipment was unsuccessful.
