Universal Studios Hollywood will add more sound barriers to Fast and Furious: Hollywood Drift in response to ongoing concerns about noise from local residents.

Los Angeles City Council Member Adrin Nazarian announced that Universal will install two more sound barriers to help reduce noise from the new roller-coaster. Sound testing met the park’s requirements but nearby Toluca Lake residents complained of hearing riders screaming.

Noise levels have been a concern since before construction began on Fast and Furious: Hollywood Drift. Universal conducted sound tests in early 2023. They said the ride would have sound reduction technology, including sound shield panels.

Construction on the two additional sound barriers is expected to be completed by early September.

Fast and Furious: Hollywood Drift opened for technical rehearsals on Monday, July 27. Universal still hasn’t announced an official opening date and it may not come until after the new barriers are installed.

The roller-coaster reaches 72 mph across 4,100 feet of track, featuring spinning vehicles inspired by cars from the Fast & Furious franchise. Check out our full ride POV:

Another version of Fast and Furious: Hollywood Drift is under construction at Universal Studios Florida, but sound won’t be a concern at the more insular park.
