We’ve got our first look at Mother Gothel, who is played by Kathryn Hahn, on the set of the live-action Tangled.

The film is currently filming in Spain, both at on-location sets and at Burgos Cathedral for scenes in the kingdom.
Hahn herself confirmed she was set to play the villain of Tangled earlier this year when she shared a social media post of herself wearing a Mother Gothel t-shirt with the caption, “OOTD, Mother Gothel.” Official Disney social media accounts collaborated, saying, “You want her to be the bad guy? FINE. Kathryn Hahn is Mother Gothel in Disney’s live-action Tangled.”
The live-action Tangled has been filming for a few weeks now, and we’ve already gotten our first look at Rapunzel with braided hair and unbraided hair.
We first reported on the development of a live-action Tangled remake in 2020, ten years after the original film’s release, and it was announced in December 2024 as being in development with The Greatest Showman film director Michael Gracey.
The project was then placed on “indefinite hold” in April 2025 following the disappointing performance of the live-action Snow White film, but resumed production in October 2025 after the blockbuster live-action Lilo & Stitch. Gracey is still directing, and Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is still writing the script.
The Tangled cast includes Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel, Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider, and Croft as Rapunzel. Diego Luna is also attached to the project as an original character in the film.
