Voice actor Jim Cummings will not be reprising his role as Drake Mallard, a.k.a. Darkwing Duck, in the upcoming Darkwing Duck reboot.

Cummings spoke with Collider recently about the long-developing reboot, but revealed that he would not be a part of it:

“I did a pilot for it several years ago, to see the viability of it coming back, and everybody went nuts. And they are bringing it back, and they’re hiring somebody else to do Terry McGovern’s role of Launchpad, and they’re hiring somebody else to be Darkwing Duck. I hope they get…everything they deserve. Crazy, I don’t know what to tell you.”

The reboot was announced in 2020 with Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, and Alex McAtee of Point Grey Pictures reportedly producing the Disney+ project. However, very few updates have been made regarding the reboot.

Cummings seemed to be part of the project at first; he told Screen Rant earlier this year: “We’re all still alive and kicking. I guess Seth Rogen, my old buddy, he’s going to be one of the prime movers, shakers. So stay tuned.”

The original Darkwing Duck ran from 1991 to 1992 with 91 episodes.

It follows superhero Darkwing Duck, his sidekick Launchpad McQuack, and sometimes his adopted daughter Gosalyn.

Drake Mallard isn’t the only iconic character that Cummings has voiced in the past; he has also performed as Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, and more.

Disney Legend Snub

Cummings has also been in the news after being snubbed for the Disney Legend honor.

He recently reshared many fan posts regarding Disney not recognizing him on his Instagram. In his caption, he wrote: “40 years. 1500 characters. The voice of generations. No comment.”
