Pirates of the Caribbean 6 producer Jerry Bruckheimer said that he is speaking with Johnny Depp about returning as Captain Jack Sparrow.
Johnny Depp’s Potential ‘Pirates’ Return
“We’re talking to Johnny,” Bruckheimer told Deadline at D23: The Ultimate Fan Event. “We’re working on a screenplay, and hopefully we can get this done.”
Other sources told the news outlet that the upcoming film in the franchise will focus more on Margot Robbie’s character rather than Sparrow. Earlier this year, we reported that Robbie was in talks to join the film.
Bruckheimer also spoke about Johnny’s potential return in 2025 with Entertainment Weekly.
“If he likes the way the part’s written, I think he would do it,” he said at the time. “It’s all about what’s on the page, as we all know.”
The Pirates franchise is currently made up of five films, with the most recent one being 2017’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Depp reprised his role for the film, alongside Geoffrey Rush (Hector Barbossa), Orlando Bloom (Will Turner), and Keira Knightley (Elizabeth Swann).
