The ride vehicles, models, and new concept art have been revealed for Space Mountain Earthrise at Tokyo Disneyland.
Space Mountain Earthrise
Space Mountain Earthrise is an all-new indoor roller coaster attraction that takes guests on a journey through outer space, featuring brand new architecture and a newly developed ride system that combines imaginative storytelling and immersive theatrical effects inspired by the wonders of space. The attraction begins with a powerful launch from Earth, hurtling guests aboard their ride vehicles deep into space with special light and sound effects inspired by various space phenomena.
First up, we have a scale model of the plaza main icon. Located in the heart of Tomorrowland, this area — a symbolic portrayal of mankind and nature existing in harmony — connects the Tomorrowland of the past and future.
Next is the model of the exterior of the attraction. It incorporates curved features designed after the movements of celestial bodies and forms found in nature, such as trees and flowers — an expression of the connection between space and nature.
We also got our first look at the ride vehicles, thanks to the maquette on display. They seat four guests per vehicle with two in the first row and two in the second row.
Additionally, in a first for roller coasters at Tokyo Disney Resort, the ride vehicles will come equipped with an onboard audio system.
Last is new concept art detailing the loading area. The ceiling has a large chandelier-type lighting with pillars of lights in the space.
Tokyo Disneyland recently revealed the name of the attraction, which is part of a bold reimagining of Tomorrowland and a sizable investment of ¥100 billion. The entire refurbished and expanded area will open in 2027.
Space Mountain Earthrise, the signature attraction of Tomorrowland, will retain the previous version’s concept as an indoor coaster but will be completely transformed. An attraction since Tokyo Disneyland first opened, Space Mountain will return with various enhancements, a new story, and rich and dynamic show elements to take guests on an even more thrilling and captivating journey through outer space.
