A massive piece of construction equipment has now been removed from the Tropical Americas construction site at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, which marks a significant step in the transformation of the land.
Crews installed a tall tower crane at Disney’s Animal Kingdom for construction of the new Encanto ride in the Tropical Americas land in September of 2025.
Tower cranes are used to lift construction materials up to the highest points of the construction structures. These can also include the largest or heaviest items, like steel beams or even large machinery.
The crane, which has been a prominent fixture above the construction, is now gone, revealing the open sky as seen in our images above from today and the end of July when the top of the carousel was being installed.
With the tower crane now removed from the site, this is a notable sign of progress along the construction timeline, indicating the tallest portions of the land are now in place.
Themed Rockwork
Construction is still underway, and we are now seeing themed rockwork on the site. The pieces lowest to the ground don’t appear to be part of any of the structures that have risen on the site so far and are very likely the samples we have been seeing in aerial photos staged near the Imagineering office. They also seem to be placed in what is to be the future walkway in the center of the land. The taller gray rockwork first began as plain concrete columns and is now receiving its rock texture theming.
Both sides of the soon-to-be entrance on the ‘Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond!’ side of the land are receiving the themed rock treatment.
Tropical Americas will represent the fictional community of Pueblo Esperanza. The land is scheduled to open in 2027 with the carousel, a new Encanto attraction, a playground, and an Indiana Jones adventure replacing DINOSAUR.
