The future Tropical Americas land continues to take shape at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, where crews are expanding rockwork and roofwork throughout the land.
Tropical Americas Construction
From the pathway outside the construction walls, guests can see the developing structures of Pueblo Esperanza rising throughout the former DinoLand U.S.A. site. Scaffolding surrounds several prominent concrete elements, while new roofs and partially framed buildings are visible deeper inside the land.
One of the most noticeable structures is the large steel entryway gate. The framework consists of tall rectangular sections connected by a broad upper beam, with two diagonal braces forming an angular opening through the center. The gate remains exposed steel, but its scale is now very much evident from the guest walkway.
Work is also continuing on the roof over the carousel. More wooden rafters now stretch across the structure, forming several sloped roof sections around the masonry walls below.
The roofline sits near the larger circular carousel canopy, which has also advanced considerably in recent weeks. Slanted beams forming the carousel’s main roof were installed in July, followed by the placement of a prefabricated upper section at the center of the structure.
An aerial view of the construction site previously provided a clearer look at the layout, with the queue structure positioned beside the circular carousel and additional covered areas expected to serve its entrance and exit.
The completed carousel will feature wood-carved Disney animals, including Kevin from Up, beneath a large, layered canopy.
At another entrance to Tropical Americas, scaffolding surrounds two tall pillars where work appears to be underway on their themed exteriors.
Just over a week ago, twisted rebar was visible extending from the top of one entrance column. That armature has now been covered, transforming the previously skeletal elements into solid, jagged pillars.
Additional pointed rockwork is visible deeper inside the construction area. Several narrow gray forms rise between the scaffolding, with sharply tapered tops and rough, uneven surfaces.
The new formations stand near poured concrete walls, utility pipes, and a graded earthen slope. This rockwork could help frame pathways or separate different levels of the land once landscaping is installed. Mature trees already preserved or transplanted around the site will eventually help blend the artificial formations into the surrounding environment.
Tropical Americas will represent the fictional community of Pueblo Esperanza. The land is scheduled to open in 2027 with the carousel, a new Encanto attraction, a playground, and an Indiana Jones adventure replacing DINOSAUR.
