It’s honestly hard keeping up with all the changes happening in Disney World right now, between new lands, new rides, updated rides, new hotels, hotel updates, and more! Well, even EPCOT seems to be getting in on the changes, which will include that Spaceship Earth upgrade we’ve been waiting for FOREVER. But something else is changing in EPCOT, too, and it makes us a little sad.

In the Mexico Pavilion, there’s a store selling Oaxacan Wood Carvings, and these wood carvings are some of the most unique souvenirs you can get in EPCOT. However, we just learned that the Oaxacan Wood Carvings store will be closing soon.

We went by the Mexico Pavilion to check, and sure enough, the Oaxacan Wood Carvings store will be closing on September 1st, which means its last day open will be on Monday. While it remains open, though, everything is currently being sold at 50% off. So if you want to pick up a unique souvenir in Mexico, now would be a great time to do so.

Now, we don’t know why this store is closing or what might be taking its place (if anything), but we will have to say we’re a little sad to see such a unique shop going away. Of course, all the other little stores inside the Mexico Pavilion offer some cool souvenirs, too, so you do have other options for shopping there.

Each of the figures in the shop is handmade from Copal wood harvested from the Oaxacan Valley in Southern Mexico. Local artists use machetes and pocketknives to carve the figures, which are then sanded and meticulously painted. The carvings generally combine both real and mythical creatures.

That’s one reason we love shopping in EPCOT’s World Showcase. You can find souvenirs from around the world you might not find anywhere else EXCEPT in that part of the world.
