Let’s face it…flying is stressful, and just about ANYTHING can delay or cancel a flight, so it’s almost always a gamble when you arrive at the airport for your next flight. Well, over the weekend, many people faced just that as a nor’easter hit the East Coast.

Because of that weather, Forbes reports that thousands of flights were delayed, and delays are continuing into this week. So if you’re flying soon, you’ll want to be aware!
On Sunday, more than 5,000 flights were delayed as a nor’easter pummeled parts of the Northeastern U.S., bringing flooding and power outages. Forecasters are still warning flyers, though, that impacts from the storm will continue through today before it ends. And, of course, once delays start to pile up, even more delays will likely happen. As of right now, FlightAware reports that 2,764 flights in the U.S. have been delayed today.

The nor’easter is forecast to continue bringing rain and high winds through today. Flood warnings are in place for many of the impacted areas, and winds up to 65 mph could hit the New York area soon. Flooding will impact both coastlines and cities, and roadways could become impassable.
Flying hasn’t been easy lately.
So if you’re flying this week, you will want to take some precautions. First, make sure you have a way for your airline to notify you in case your flight is delayed. You can generally sign up for text message notifications with each airline, but you can also set up notifications in your airline’s app, too. Right now, five major airlines are currently issuing waivers to rebook flights for no extra charge if the flights are going to or coming from areas impacted by the storm. So if you are concerned, you might want to consider contacting your airline to see if rebooking your flight would be a good option.
