The towering vertical lift system for the Monsters, Inc. door coaster is taking shape as additional track awaits installation near Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Monsters, Inc. Door Coaster Construction
Aerial photographer bioreconstruct shared new views of the massive show building under construction behind Monstropolis. The attraction is being built in what was previously a backstage Cast Member parking lot adjacent to the former Muppets Courtyard.
The latest aerial photos offer a close look at what will become the coaster’s loading area. Two tall, gray steel structures rise on opposite sides of the central space, forming the attraction’s vertical lift systems.
Guests will board suspended ride vehicles near the floor of the Monsters, Inc. factory. The trains will then remain level as they are raised more than 40 feet in roughly four seconds, bringing riders toward the curved ceiling above the loading area. The individual seats will rotate from their sideways boarding positions to face forward during the lift.
Disney recently provided a fully rendered preview of the loading area and launch sequence. The station will be styled after the factory’s expansive scare floor, with two loading zones positioned beneath the distinctive “M”-shaped overhead framework.
Several of those rounded “M” elements are now visible between the vertical lift structures. The first of these specialized station supports appeared in August, and the collection has since expanded across the loading area.
Once the vehicles reach the top of the lift, they will swiftly launch forward into the door vault. A roof now covers much of the elevated section immediately to the right of the loading area, where trains will enter the attraction’s enclosed upper floor.
Coaster Track Staging Area
Several additional aerial views show the staging area along the Disney Skyliner route. Dozens of gray coaster-track sections are arranged around the site’s perimeter, alongside stacks of structural steel, support components, and construction equipment.
The pieces include track with gentle bends, tighter curves, and longer straight sections. Many rest on temporary cradles as they await transport to the attraction’s construction site. More steel is arranged in organized rows across the center and opposite side of the yard.
A flatbed trailer is parked near some of the larger curved components, while an Adena Corporation trailer is positioned beside the coaster track pieces.
Monstropolis
Monstropolis will be the first land based on Monsters, Inc. at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Disney recently revealed that the land’s story will center on H.U.M.A.N. Day, short for “Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice,” a celebration welcoming humans into Monstropolis after the events of the original film.
The project includes the Monsters, Inc. door coaster, Harryhausen’s, and The Glob theater. Disney has not yet announced an opening date for Monstropolis.
