New aerial photos from bioreconstruct reveal work on a central fountain, rebuilt entrance columns, and extensively remodeled façades throughout Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Monstropolis Construction
The former Muppets Courtyard is in the midst of a metamorphosis as crews transform the area into the monster-filled city. Scaffolding surrounds much of the existing complex, while the center of the land remains an active construction zone filled with equipment and building materials.
Near the entrance, four tall concrete columns have been installed following what appeared to be early troubles in the construction of the new pillars. These new aerial views make it clear that the four newest columns occupy the same locations as the first set of columns that were installed and then demolished for some unknown reason.
The former MuppetVision 3D theater is also visible beyond the columns. Its brick clock tower has been repainted, and a working clock face remains installed near the top. The building will become The Glob, home to a new stage production.
One of the most notable developments is a network of plumbing being installed beneath the future courtyard fountain. White pipes can be seen within a large excavated area near The Glob theater, marking the planned location of the water feature. Additional trenches and utility lines extend through the surrounding dirt.
Scaffolding continues to envelop the façades around the future Dark Avenue, the main street leading toward the Monsters, Inc. factory. Crews have constructed deep overhangs, ledges, and irregular rooflines that will help reshape the former Muppets Courtyard buildings into the layered architecture of Monstropolis.
A long section of the former PizzeRizzo dining venue appears to house a variety of construction equipment and other smaller gathered materials. Decorative trim resembling arches and unusual monster-like shapes is taking form beneath the roofline.
From farther above, the photos show how the land’s existing buildings will frame the central courtyard and lead guests deeper into Dark Avenue. The massive Monsters, Inc. factory and door coaster show building rise behind the remodeled façades.

Monstropolis at Hollywood Studios
Monstropolis is replacing the former Muppets Courtyard and will bring the world of Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Its story takes place after humans and monsters have learned to coexist, with guests welcomed into the city for H.U.M.A.N. Day — “Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice.”
Most of Monstropolis is scheduled to open in 2027, followed by the land’s suspended door roller coaster in a later phase. The attraction will be Disney’s first suspended coaster and its first coaster featuring a vertical lift, carrying guests into the famous door vault from the films.
The former MuppetVision 3D theater will present Welcome to Monstropolis! With Sulley & Mike. Randy Newman composed an original song for the production, which will feature Mike, Sulley, and other monsters.
Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano is being transformed into Harryhausen’s, complete with a tentacled sushi-chef Audio-Animatronic. Other announced dining and retail locations include Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza, the Monsters University Alumni Club, and the Scareporium.
