Disney Legend Bob Gurr has spent decades designing revolutionary transportation, but the First Order apparently does not recognize his authority over even his own vehicle.
Bob Gurr Resists the First Order
A humorous interaction caught on video and shared on Bob Gurr’s official Instagram shows the retired Walt Disney Imagineer preparing to board Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disneyland Park. Gurr is seated on a mobility scooter, which a First Order officer refers to as his “transporter.”
“I will be taking the transporter to the exit for you,” the Cast Member tells Gurr.
“You do not have the authority to confiscate my transporter!” Gurr fires back.
Rather than concede, the Cast Member remains firmly in character and raises the stakes.
“It’s going to the trash compactor, and you’ll never see it again,” the officer warns.
Gurr responds with an incredulous “Well!” before the officer ends the exchange by ordering him to “say goodbye” to the transporter.
The interaction takes place inside the hangar of a First Order Star Destroyer. At this point in Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, guests’ Resistance transport has been captured, and First Order officers direct the new “prisoners” through the ship and toward their interrogation.
Despite his admirable resistance, Gurr joined the rest of the prisoners on foot for the remainder of the ride experience.

Bob Gurr’s Disney Transportation Legacy
The exchange is particularly fitting considering Gurr’s extensive history designing vehicles and ride systems for Disney. He began working with WED Enterprises, now Walt Disney Imagineering, while developing the miniature automobiles for Disneyland’s Autopia.
Over nearly four decades, Gurr created more than 100 designs for Disney attractions. His work included the Autopia vehicles, Matterhorn Bobsleds, Disneyland and Walt Disney World Monorails, Main Street vehicles, Flying Saucers, and Ford’s Magic Skyway. He was inducted as a Disney Legend in 2004.
Despite that résumé, not even one of Disney’s foremost transportation experts could persuade the First Order to spare his “transporter” from the trash compactor.
