During the refurbishment of Echo Lake at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, crews have laid brand-new electrical conduit.

The conduit runs across the lake from Dockside Diner to Dinosaur Gertie’s Ice Cream of Extinction. It runs under the recently repainted fake logs and tree stumps.

The concrete boxes spaced every couple of feet appear to have been secured to the bottom of the empty lake with white adhesive. The straps for holding the conduit were then screwed into the tops of the boxes. This means Disney didn’t have to screw holes into the watertight surface below.

Running the conduit underwater keeps it out of guest view (once the lake is refilled). However, we don’t know what the conduit is for. It’s to one side of the concrete blocks, which means there could be more installed later.

Meanwhile, crews have repainted the base of S.S. Down the Hatch, the life-size “boat” home of Dockside Diner. The red hull is now consistent instead of showing an obvious water line.

The lake was drained last month and scaffolding was installed around Dockside Diner soon after.
