Cracked Walls, Dark Grime & Frayed Ropes Highlight Continued Maintenance Issues at Magic Kingdom's 'it's a small world'

Deteriorating surfaces, fixtures, and a general state of dirtiness continue to be documented around “it’s a small world” at Magic Kingdom.

‘it’s a small world’ Maintenance Issues

Colorful carousel with dolls in blue and white costumes captures the magic of Magic Kingdom’s it’s a small world ride.

Earlier this month, we reported on numerous signs of deterioration throughout the classic Fantasyland attraction, including peeling surfaces, dark marks along the waterline, burnt-out light bulbs, and dirt across the queue and attraction sets. A subsequent visit revealed still more examples of the ride’s ill-maintained state.

Several platforms beside the waterway are coated with dirt and grime. Dark discoloration covers the lower walls, while dust and debris have collected across the light-colored floors. A nearby white wall is chipped and cracked near its base. The damaged surface sits beside a brightly colored geometric panel, making the deterioration especially noticeable.

A large patch of dark grime has accumulated at the bottom of another wall bordering the waterway toward the ride’s exit. The discoloration extends upward and contrasts sharply with the otherwise white surface.

The decorative ropes lining some of these platforms are also showing their age. Several strands have become discolored, and portions of the rope appear heavily worn and frayed. The gold-colored end fittings are also visibly tarnished and dirty.

Dirt, scuff marks, and other debris are also visible across guest-facing areas. One section of the bridge above the loading area is covered with scattered marks and stains, with additional buildup along the edges of the decorative panels.

These latest observations add to a growing list of cosmetic problems around “it’s a small world.” Although the attraction remains operational, its current appearance is arguably unbecoming of such an iconic, family-friendly ride, as several areas appear well overdue for a thorough cleaning and refurbishment.
