Director Ryan Coogler visited the Halloween Horror Nights house inspired by his Academy Award-winning film Sinners at Universal Studios Hollywood, and he wasn’t sure if he could survive the night in his own movie.
“Ryan Coogler vs. The Movie He Literally Wrote”
The video was shared by Proximity Media, the production company behind Sinners that’s owned by Coogler, his wife Zinzi (wearing the Sinners crew sweatshirt), and Sev Ohanian. The production team visited Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood to experience the house together.
The video starts with the production team in the Club Juke queue, watching the actors playing Preacher Boy Sammie, Stack, and the musician spirits with admiration.
The Joan vampire scareactor terrified Zinzi so much she clung to Ryan as they made their way through the “Rocky Road to Dublin” scene.
The Remmick behind the glass also got a huge response. We also got a good shot showing how the vampires’ glowing eyes are created with LEDs.
Cornbread elicited the biggest reaction, making the whole team jump and getting an “Oh s***!” from Coogler. The scareactor tipped his hat to the team after the scare before retreating to the shadows.
At one point, Ryan is seen literally fleeing from a scareactor, screaming “Where’d he go?!”
Coogler paused to shoot some video of the flying Remmick scareactor in the second-to-last room of the house.
The team has to pause to laugh and collect themselves afterward.
The caption reads “Ryan Coogler vs. the movie he literally wrote.” Coogler won the Best Original Screenplay Academy Award for Sinners (he was also nominated for Best Director).
Coogler is also the director of Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He announced in November 2025 that he would return to write and direct Black Panther 3 as his next movie following Sinners.
