New animated portraits of beloved Disney characters, as well as stills from other films, are featured in the new Enchanted Gallery, located in The Magic of Disney Animation at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Moving and Still Portraits in the Enchanted Gallery
While The Magic of Disney Animation doesn’t open until September 14, we got a first look as part of a media event.
At first glance, it feels like a traditional gallery, but a few of the characters spring to life in all-new animations created exclusively for this experience. This enchanted art gallery features artwork of animated characters, including the Kakamora coconuts from Moana, seen above. The moving animated characters are featured on large, glowing frames.
Next to the portrait, there is an area where guests can scan their MagicBands or park tickets for the animation to come alive. After they scan, they take their place on a gold plate just a few feet from the portrait that has a design representing the character or movie on it.
On the same wall as the Moana portrait, seen above, are still scenes from classic Disney films, including when Jody Hopps and Nick Wilde went to the DMV in Zootopia, Ariel on the rock singing “Part of Your World” in The Little Mermaid, and Roger playing the piano for Anita and the dogs in One Hundred and One Dalmatians.
Other movie stills included on this wall include The Aristocats, Chicken Little, The Emperor’s New Groove, and more.
Meanwhile, in another moving image, Baymax from Big Hero 6 is holding a red balloon.
The portraits near Baymax’s portrait feature a scene from the new Disney movie, Hexed, which can be seen right below the still from Tarzan, where he meets Jane, in the left photo.
In the right photo seen above, other characters include Kaa from The Jungle Book, Chicken Little from Chicken Little, Rhino from Bolt, and Morph from Treasure Planet.
The final animated image features Maximus, the stallion from Tangled. Pascal, Rapunzel’s sidekick, also makes an appearance.
To the left of the Maximus photos are scenes from Meet the Robinsons, Dumbo, The Rescuers, and more. Other photos feature Anna and Elsa from Frozen and Mulan and Mushu from Mulan.
To the right of the animated portrait are Ratigan from The Great Mouse Detective, Jasmine and Rajah from Aladdin, Belle and the Beast from Beauty and the Beast, and more. Guests can also view pictures from Peter Pan, Cinderella, The Princess and the Frog, Sleeping Beauty, and The Fox and the Hound.
Other portraits displayed in the area seen in the left picture above have scenes including when Stitch was playing music from his mouth via a record player from Lilo & Stitch and Pinocchio playing with a candle from Pinocchio. Other photos feature images from Winnie the Pooh and Oliver & Company.
More portraits include characters from Wreck-It Ralph, The Three Caballeros, and Winnie the Pooh, Lady and the Tramp, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Fantasia, Fantasia 2000, and The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad.
This area is used as a lobby for the Once Upon a Studio Theater, where guests will watch a short film in which Mickey Mouse reunites with characters and celebrates over 100 years of Disney animation.
There is another area of photos featuring drawings from Mulan, Lilo & Stitch, Brother Bear, The Lion King, and Peter Pan. The information also includes facts about the world of Disney animation. This area of photos is at the end of the Enchanted Gallery and is in the walkway leading to Off the Page.
When The Magic of Disney Animation opens next week, guests can find Once Upon a Studio Theater right as they walk into the area and turn to the left.
