Disney has reinforced its return-to-work policy, and if employees don’t comply, they could reportedly risk losing their jobs.

Disney’s Return-to-Office Policy

The media giant has reportedly told some remote tech and product employees on Monday, September 14, that they would have to return to the office four days a week, a source told Business Insider. This mandate is to push for more in-office employees rather than a strategy change.

While many employees already work in the office four days a week, some in different sectors of the company continue to work remotely. According to the source, employees who don’t abide by this new rule could face termination.

Another insider told the publication that some managers are lenient when it comes to the in-office four days a week rule, while others are stricter.

Returning to the Office

Years after the COVID-19 pandemic, The Walt Disney Company required hybrid employees to be on-site four days a week back in March 2023.

Then-CEO Bob Iger sent a message to employees saying that “working together more in-person will benefit the company’s creativity, culture, and our employees’ careers.”

“As you’ve heard me say many times, creativity is the heart and soul of who we are and what we do at Disney. And in a creative business like ours, nothing can replace the ability to connect, observe, and create with peers that comes from being physically together, nor the opportunity to grow professionally by learning from leaders and mentors.

Starting March 1, employees currently working in a hybrid fashion will be asked to spend four days a week on-site, targeting Monday through Thursday as in-person workdays.“
