Fake Bomb Threat to Disney Cruise Line May Lead to Five-Year Prison Sentence

An Illinois man is now under indictment before a federal grand jury in Orlando after a fake bomb threat to Disney Cruise Line in December.

According to The Orlando Sentinel, Daquan Smith, 20, of Chicago, Illinois, will appear before a grand jury in Orlando after being arrested for a fake bomb threat made to Disney Cruise Line in December of 2025.

Smith has been charged by the U.S. Attorney’s Office with interstate transmission of threat, which can result in a prison sentence of up to five years. He has pleaded not guilty.

The threat in question regards a call made from Smith’s cell phone from Chicago to the Disney Cruise Line phone number, referencing a bomb on a Disney Cruise Line ship that had left the Bahamas two days previously.

After having received “spam” calls from the Disney Cruise Line phone number, Smith allegedly called the number back in angry retort to pose a bomb threat, stating, “I’m letting you guys know now I have a bomb on the boat, and I want to blow it up.”

The call was traced back to Smith, identifying him as the caller. He and his mother spoke with the FBI following the call, which was not reported on the day it was made and, as far as we are aware, did not prompt any ship evacuations.

Disney Cruise Line has not responded with any comments.

The report states that Smith had “no intention to cause harm to Disney Cruise Line or anyone else.”

Smith was arrested in July in Illinois and subsequently released on bond. The call threat was made in Chicago, and thus a motion was filed to dismiss the case in Orlando to be moved to Illinois.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office had initially taken on the investigation of Smith’s bomb threat, but later told the FBI in February that it could not carry it through because the case was “outside their jurisdiction.”

Smith’s attorney is challenging the interview with the FBI, as it was not recorded and was conducted without a reading of his Miranda rights.

The next hearing will take place on October 13, 2026.
