Areas of Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa have been undergoing refurbishments on and off for the past couple of years. During our latest visit to Disneyland Resort, we noticed one of the pools was closed and completely surrounded by construction walls.
Grand Californian Hotel & Spa Refurbishments
Previously, the front pool was open but starting to be surrounded by green-and-brown construction walls. You could still see the pool from the GCH Craftsman Grill.
Since then, more construction walls have been installed, completely obscuring the view of the pool from the restaurant.
Looking over the construction walls, we could see one of the hotel’s towers obscured by beige scrim and aqua scaffolding. In addition to the pool, refurbishments have also been occurring on the exterior of the hotel. We first noticed crew members repainting the green trim beneath the balcony railings of the hotel rooms overlooking the private entrance to Disney’s California Adventure. Since then, that side of the building has been completely covered in beige scrim, though the entrance is still operational. It’s likely this tower is undergoing similar work.
The walkways in front of Storytellers Cafe and near the side entrance to the hotel lobby building also have green construction walls lined along the far edge to block the pool from view.
The construction walls continue right up to the gated fence to the entrance of the pool.
A sign has been placed in front of the gate, and it says that “This pool is temporarily unavailable. Please see a lifeguard for approximate re-open time.”
We didn’t see any active work occurring when we looked over the gate. The pool is still filled with water, and construction walls backed by sandbags have been installed on the entire perimeter of the pool area.
Disney has not officially announced why the pool is closed and when it will reopen.
