Change is a constant right now in Disney World, from building new lands and hotels to refurbishing existing attractions and restaurants — it’s safe to say they have A LOT going on right now.
And Hollywood Studios is no exception…they’re building a WHOLE new land! They also have a few smaller changes happening in October that are worth noting. Let’s go through them, so you can have a smooth and worry-free vacation!
The Mickey Shorts Theater Reopens
From mid-August to late September, Disney World Annual Passholders were able to pick up a complimentary magnet in the Mickey Shorts Theater, which meant the theater and its show would be closed. This perk lasts through September 24th, so as of writing, you can still pick yours up, but only for another week! Which leads me to the reopening of the Mickey Shorts Theater… The Disney World website shows operational hours beginning on September 27th for Vacation Fun – An Original Animated Short with Mickey & Minnie, so the theater and its show will be available in the month of October!
FINALLY! This Hollywood Studios Attraction Is Reopening After a 5-Month Closure!
Heads Up! Hollywood Studios Closes Early On October 20th
Due to a private event, Hollywood Studios will close at 5 PM on October 20th. The park will open at 9 AM to the general public (8:30 AM to resort guests), and Fantasmic! will not be available this night. Guests tend to steer away from going to parks that close early, so if you’re looking for a less-crowded Hollywood Studios day and don’t mind leaving the park early, this is a great option!

Extended Evening Hours
This perk for guests staying at a Deluxe Resort, Deluxe Villas, or other select resorts will be back on October 7th, 14th, and 28th from 9 PM to 11 PM. Extended Evening Hours allow select guests an additional two hours in the park for fewer crowds and lower wait times. The attractions available at Hollywood Studios are as follows:
- Alien Swirling Saucers
- Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
- Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
- Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets
- Slinky Dog Dash
- Star Tours – The Adventures Continue
- The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
- Toy Story Mania!

The Magic Of Disney Animation Is In Full Swing
The final areas of The Walt Disney Studios officially opened on September 14th. The Magic of Disney Animation features four new additions, including Olaf Draws!, Disney Character Greetings at “Off the Page,” Drawn to Wonderland Playground, and The Once Upon A Studio Theater. October will be the first full month of its operation.
Olaf Draws! is definitely one of the more popular experiences, so much so that you may have to join a Virtual Queue! We haven’t seen this in action, but Disney warned they may implement one if the line gets too long. Here’s ALL the info we have on that Virtual Queue update!
If you’re headed to Disney World next month and plan on visiting Hollywood Studios, be sure to keep these changes in mind, so you’re not met with any surprises! Stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for more!
