Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch has continued to shoot down any potential plans to bring back the Disney cartoon for season 3. Many have asked Hirsch over the years if the show will return, and the answer is still no.
‘Gravity Falls’ Official Ending

The show had two seasons and first aired on Disney Channel in 2012. Years later, the final episode of the series aired in early 2016. The show follows the misadventures of Dipper Pines and his twin sister Mabel, who are sent to spend the summer with their great-uncle “Grunkle” Stan in Gravity Falls, Oregon, a mysterious town full of paranormal forces and supernatural creatures.
Ever since the ending of the show, Hirsch has said that the show will not get a third season, as the story is finished.
“I have no intention to ever create a season three of Gravity Falls because I think one of the reasons we’re still talking about it 10 years later is that there’s a satisfying ending to the story,” Hirsch told Polygon.
“It was designed to tell a story about one incredible summer, where these two twins sort of went through this threshold of going from little kids to starting to become young teens and their uncle who had this long lost brother who finally found him and this question, ‘Who wrote the journals?’ and this big answer. It’s not designed for us to then say, ‘OK, what if there’s a long lost triplet and they go to Mars and they’ve got a talking race car?‘”
When discussing who wrote the journals, Hirsch is referring to Stanford Pines, also known as “Ford,” Uncle Grunkle Stan’s long-lost twin brother. These journals had information about the forces and creatures living in Gravity Falls.
However, Hirsch and the show’s supervising producer and story editor, Rob Renzetti, will soon be releasing their new book, The Art of Gravity Falls, which showcases the visual history of the series, including first inklings of the characters and world, easter eggs, and more. The book will be released on September 15, 2026.
Both seasons of Gravity Falls are available to stream on Disney Plus.
