The former Ichabod’s Landing gift shop near The Haunted Mansion has been demolished during construction of Piston Peak National Park in Magic Kingdom.
Ichabod’s Landing Gift Shop
The shop was right next to ride’s entrance gates, blocked by construction walls. Like the adjacent Mike Fink Keel Boats landing, the building has been completely demolished. The building on the right remains and was actually given an extension.
The photo above shows both buildings and the boat landing intact just a few months ago.
Here’s the view from the Liberty Square side of the construction walls. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is now easily visible from this spot.
And here’s a look Ichabod’s Landing prior to Piston Peak construction. Originally the Keelboat Shop, the gift shop ultimately closed due to the long queue for The Haunted Mansion.
It’s also clear just how much the ground level has been raised over the past few months. The blue tower in the foreground of this photo is the base of a tower crane installed in July. The rest of the crane has yet to arrive, however.
Construction Walls
Construction walls were extended to completely block the Frontierland boardwalk this week. The walls are now decorated with themed signs and posters.
A few notices indicate gold miners are wanted for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. A yellowing poster advertises Hard Times Cafe. There’s a poster for The Hoop Dee Doo Revue at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort.
A colorful poster advertises a rodeo featuring The Amazin’ Slue-Foot Sue, the one and only catfish riding cowgirl. Slue-Foot Sue is from the Pecos Bill segment of Disney’s Melody Time (1948). Unfortunately, Sue’s poster is already peeling off the wall.
Other vintage-style ads in this space mention a “Wonder Heart Cure” and miracle cures by Doctor Terminus — the antagonist of Pete’s Dragon (1977).
Other groups of signs reference the C’est Beau brand, Dr. Miga’s Moustache Wax, Makin’ Groceries, oil soap for hardwood, Terrebonne Molasses, and Julius & Co laundry soap. These are all replicas of signs in Tiana’s Bayou General.
Another Doctor Terminus card is next to this poster for “Hundreds of Acres,” a reference to the Hundred Acre Wood from Winnie the Pooh. The land is in Silver Hill, Colorado, the setting of Snowball Express (1972).
The walls aren’t completely covered in posters and there are many stretches with just the standard construction wall quotes. We expect more will be added, including concept art for Piston Peak.
