Marvel Entertainment announced Murray’s passing and shared a tribute to the writer on social media.

Will Murray, prolific author, editor, journalist, pulp historian, and co-creator of beloved Marvel character Squirrel Girl, has sadly passed away. His writing was energetic, optimistic, with a larger-than-life style that inspired so many. Our thoughts are with his loved ones.

As a young man, Murray became a fan of Doc Savage, and went on to write numerous articles and novels about the character.

He wrote comic books, prose stories, and non-fiction articles on various characters and topics. He scripted The Destroyer black-and-white magazine and stories starring Iron Man and the Punisher, plus introductions to volumes like the Marvel Comics Omnibus. He wrote stories about Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man, Ant-Man, the Hulk, Sherlock Holmes, Zorro, Tarzan, and more.
