Disney artist Brett Snodgrass has shared a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the all-new Monsters, Inc. Halloween overlay for the hotel.
Behind the Pixar Place Hotel Halloween Makeover
Guests visiting Pixar Place Hotel at Disneyland Resort during the Halloween season can experience an all-new Monsters, Inc. themed display that features monsters in various costumes trick-or-treating around the resort. Brett Snodgrass was one of the digital artists who worked on this new overlay.
The makeover was the result of two years of work and collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering, Pixar, and Resort Enhancement at Disneyland Resort. Snodgrass, who has worked for the Resort Enhancement team for over eight years, was inspired when a fellow team member suggested what Halloween would look like for Mike, Sulley, and Boo.
“I started to think: Monsters, Inc., Halloween, trick-or-treat, and doors,” explains Brett. “You can see all of our monster characters in the artwork having fun, wearing costumes and passing the candy back and forth between our world and theirs.”
It was important to Snodgrass that the new design felt authentic to the world fans know, while adding a distinct Halloween touch. Snodgrass worked closely with Pixar to ensure the characters maintained their established designs and personalities. After the artwork was approved, the project was then handed over to printers, graphic technicians, and installers to physically transform Pixar Place Hotel.
Snodgrass has a personal tradition after every art project he completes to walk to the location in the resort where his art is displayed. One of the most rewarding parts for him is knowing families, friends, and Disney fans will be interacting with the new decor and making memories together.
