The massive Monsters, Inc. door coaster show building is becoming an omnipresent structure in Disney’s Hollywood Studios skyline.
Monsters, Inc. Door Coaster Construction
Our latest ground-level photos show the sprawling steel framework of the door coaster’s show building rising beyond rows of vehicles in the park’s parking lot. Several cranes continue to surround the structure, while boom lifts carry crews between its different levels.
The new perspective emphasizes the enormous scale of the building. Compared with ground-level photos captured in July, the steel skeleton has expanded significantly, and roof structures now extend across several portions of the facility.
Sections of roof decking are visible along the top of the building. Our latest aerial construction update provided a clearer look at the building’s varying roof heights, which correspond with different portions of the coaster’s station, vertical lift, launch, and main ride areas.
The two tall structures supporting the attraction’s vertical lift systems can be distinguished near the center of the building. Guests will board suspended trains near the floor before being raised more than 40 feet toward the ceiling. The trains will remain level during the roughly four-second ascent, while the individual seats rotate to face forward.
Dense layers of steel surround the lift structures, including the rounded framework expected to support theming inside the Monsters, Inc. factory-inspired loading area. Much of this interior construction will become increasingly difficult to see as additional roofing and exterior walls enclose the building.
Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Monstropolis is currently being constructed on the site of the former Muppets Courtyard and will open in phases beginning next year, though no opening date has been announced. Mama Melrose’s will become Harryhausen’s, a restaurant visited by characters in the first Monsters, Inc. Read more about the land’s shopping and dining venues.
Additionally, a new coaster show building is being added in what was formerly a backstage Cast Member parking lot. The door coaster will be Disney’s first-ever suspended coaster and first vertical lift coaster.
The new show inside The Glob theater, which previously housed Muppet Vision 3-D, is officially called Welcome to Monstropolis! With Sulley & Mike, with an original song from prolific musician and composer Randy Newman.
With the opening of The Magic of Disney Animation on September 14, a new Disney’s Hollywood Studios map also debuted. On the map, “Future Home of Monstropolis” is now over the former Muppets Courtyard off Grand Avenue. The new land is set to open in phases beginning next year.
