Things are changing at the Mexico Pavilion in EPCOT at Walt Disney World. The Oaxacan wood carving shop has officially closed, and the Kidcot area of Mexico has been cleared and roped off.

Oaxacan Wood Carvers and Kidcot Unavailable

The area where the Oaxacan wood carving shop was once located is now empty. The only things left in the space are a large lamppost and a dark wooden barrel. Guests could find this store in Plaza de los Amigos, the “open-air” marketplace inside the Mexico Pavilion pyramid.

Just last week, we reported that the wood carvers were closing up their store. When we went to the shop, which sells colorful figures handmade from wood harvested from the hills surrounding the Oaxacan Valley in southern Mexico, everything was discounted 50%. A cast member confirmed that the shop closed on August 31. Disney has not announced what will replace this shop.

Meanwhile, the Kidcot area has been dismantled and roped off, as seen in the pictures below.

Kidcot is a place where guests can pick up an international memento with facts and activities featuring the culture and traditions of the countries at stations throughout World Showcase.

There is currently no replacement area for Kidcot, and Mexico does not have one as of Tuesday, September 1.
