It’s certainly no secret that Magic Kingdom is changing in a major way, with the upcoming additions of Villains Land and Piston Peak National Park.

While we might not know exactly when either new land will open just yet, Disney is already hard at work making them come to life. Construction is well underway, and we’ve been doing our best to keep an eye on it — even though it’s not easy to spot from the ground. Luckily, there are some new photos that give us a better look at how things are going. Let’s check them out!

Things are certainly moving along with construction at Piston Peak National Park! Thanks to @bioreconstruct on X/Twitter, we have new aerial photos of the land, complete with a large tower crane in the middle, which is likely for constructing the Cars Ridge Run Rally ride. Access to Piston Peak will be between the exit area of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and the Haunted Mansion, so now those two areas of the park will be directly connected.

You can see Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in the upper right corner of the photo below, just to give you an idea of exactly what you’re looking at. Disney has shared that the Peak in Piston Peak will be designed to match the nearby attractions, including these.

Here’s another look at the construction, this time from the Big Thunder Mountain Queue. While the land won’t be large in terms of size, it will be packed with two rides, and potentially dining and shopping as well, though Disney hasn’t officially announced anything.

The upcoming area is inspired by National Parks, and more specifically Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. The name of Piston Peak stems from the fictional land, Piston Peak National Park, from the 2014 Disney film Planes: Fire & Rescue (which is part of the Cars universe).

Get ready to race through the mountains on wild terrain along mountain trails as you dodge geysers and splash through mud holes on an exciting and thrilling ride: Cars Ridge Run Rally! Disney shared that “The course will take racers through the rugged beauty of America’s national parks, including a climb up Piston Peak itself, where an icy, snow-covered mountaintop awaits.”

The second ride will be geared toward “smaller racers” and will be fun for the whole family: Miss Fritter’s Daredevil Spin-Along! Here, you’ll enter into a demolition derby with Miss Fritter and her “larger-than-life personality,” in her form as a high school-sized bus animatronic!
