Plain gray solar-powered trash cans have arrived across the majority of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, including near Toy Story Land, one of the most colorful areas of the park.

Gray Solar-Powered Trash Cans Take Over Disney’s Hollywood Studios

During our recent visit to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we noticed that gray solar-powered trash cans have been installed throughout much of the park. The trash cans are plain and undecorated on all sides.

We spotted the gray trash cans in front of the Mickey Shorts Theater, as well as near BaseLine Tap House, Oasis Canteen, and Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular.

More gray trash cans be found on the walkway to Toy Story Land – arguably one of the most colorful areas of Disney’s Hollywood Studios – as well as outside The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure.

In comparison, bright green trash cans decorated with the Chinese Theatre logo can be found at the front of the park, and Sorcerer Mickey trash cans were recently installed at the newly reimagined Animation Courtyard. We’re not sure why more green trash cans couldn’t have been made.

The solar panels in the tops of the cans power built-in trash compactors. The trash cans have foot pedals, but the flaps can also be pulled open. This has proven confusing for guests and Disney released an instructional video in response.

This trash can style debuted at EPCOT in June and Disney confirmed soon after they would be rolling out across Walt Disney World. Walt Disney Imagineering worked on the trash can designs. We have also seen the cans at Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom.
