Guests entering Walt Disney World Resort from Hotel Plaza Boulevard are once again receiving a bright, colorful welcome following the refurbishment of the roadway’s entrance sign.
Hotel Plaza Boulevard Entrance Sign Refresh
The sign is located near the intersection of Hotel Plaza Boulevard and State Road 535, welcoming drivers traveling toward Disney Springs and the nearby resort hotels.
Its long blue backdrop now appears clean and freshly painted, helping the white “Welcome to Walt Disney World Resort” lettering stand out. Above the resort wordmark, a gold banner proclaims Walt Disney World “The Most Magical Place on Earth.”
Mickey Mouse welcomes guests on the north side, while Minnie Mouse appears at the opposite end. Their figures have also been refreshed, with clean surfaces showing vivid red, yellow, white, and black details. The blue backdrop behind Mickey and Minnie appears flat from afar, but both still include signs of embossed Mickey Mouse icons behind the two characters.
The gray columns framing Mickey look newly painted as well. Gold caps and spherical ornaments top the pair of columns around Mickey, coordinating with the sign’s curved gold trim and tagline banner. During our latest pass by the signs, it appeared that some of the same elements on Minnie’s side, such as the spheres and center trim, were still awaiting a fresh coat of gold paint.
Landscaping remains in place along the base of the structure, including neatly trimmed shrubs and agave plants. Although some roadway work appeared to be continuing nearby during our visit, the entrance sign itself was fully visible without construction walls.
The signs have undergone several recolors over the years, including a distinct 50th anniversary update that introduced the gold-blue-gray stylings similar to what’s still on display. Prior to that, these signs incorporated more shades of brown, green, and purple, a color scheme that can still be found on some of the older infrastructural elements at the resort.
Nearly identical character signs can be found at other main roadways across Walt Disney World Resort, including Western Way and World Drive, both of which also include larger arch structures spanning the width of their respective inbound roads.
