Disneyland Paris guests are becoming increasingly upset over the resort’s repeated use of art created by artificial intelligence.
Disneyland Paris and AI “Art”
The recent discussion kicked off after X user @Lorenchantment (Loren) shared a picture of an obviously AI flyer posted at Lily’s Boutique.
Some users suggested the flyer wasn’t supposed to be seen by guests because the phrasing addresses chefs, and Imagineers probably wouldn’t have approved the design.
But Disneyland Paris has faced flack for using AI several times in the past few years. User @Themountainkin1 (Themountainking) responded to Loren’s post with a few examples they had previously shared in response to a sign at Silver Spur Steakhouse that apparently used an AI image of a steak.
One example posted by Themountainking is artwork added to Main Street, U.S.A. last year. Though not confirmed to be AI, the man depicted in the art has odd proportions, particularly in the hands, and the art style is off.
Themountainking also pointed to Disneyland Paris replacing their official voice for Donald Duck with an AI voice and a Disney Adventure World presentation that used an AI voice over. The latter was obviously AI not only because of its intonation but because it could not pronounce “Rapunzel.”
DLP Report had also previously shared a piece of new artwork at Disney Newport Bay Club depicting a lighthouse, sailboat, and hot air balloon. The original piece seemed to be AI, although this was not confirmed. It was ultimately replaced with a similar piece that looked less like AI.
Despite criticism, The Walt Disney Company has made their pro-AI stance clear, although they have sent cease and desist letters to multiple AI companies using their IPs without permission.
