Pizzafari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom has added Baked Chicken Tenders to its menu, offering guests a lighter alternative to the fried tenders commonly served around Walt Disney World.

The Baked Chicken Tenders officially debuted at Pizzafari on Sunday, September 6. We stopped by to try the new dish and its tangy dipping sauce.

Our first impression: these are fairly basic chicken tenders, though the baked breading does feel distinctly lighter than what you would find on your usual fried tenders. The coating is crispy on the outside, while the chicken inside is moist, tender, and breaks apart easily. They certainly aren’t bad, but they aren’t particularly memorable, either.

We expected the accompanying “tangy” sauce to be similar to what’s served with the chicken sandwiches at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café and Connections Eatery, but it tastes noticeably different. It is very tangy, with a lightly spicy bite that comes through at the end. It wasn’t our favorite dipping sauce, though it wasn’t necessarily bad. We would probably opt for ranch instead next time.

The kettle-cooked chips are a basic side and don’t add much to the meal. They may just be Miss Vickie’s chips, which are served at other locations around Walt Disney World.

Overall, the Baked Chicken Tenders aren’t overly impressive, but there isn’t anything particularly wrong with them, either. If you’re looking for something a little lighter than fried chicken tenders, however, these are definitely a solid option.
