You’ve got a TON of options when it comes to dining at Disney World. Want something quick and easy? You’ve got it. Something middle of the road and comforting? Yep, that too. And if you’re looking for something upscale and luxurious, you can find that as well.

Over at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter, you’ll find Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory, a counter-service spot that offers plenty of fresh eats and a variety of grab-and-go options if you’re just looking for something quick to eat on your way to the parks or back to your hotel room.

We recently stopped by to try the Big Easy Custard, which you can get for $4.99. This is a beignet-flavored custard with a praline topping, and you’ll find it in one of the grab-and-go cases at Sassagoula. Our first impression of this dessert is that it is VERY sweet — our first bite was mostly praline, and it tasted like a very sweet icing with pecans in it. Luckily, the custard helps to balance out some of that sweetness.
The praline mixed with the custard is really fantastic — it’s sweet, nutty, and creamy all at once, with a hint of that vanilla beignet flavor from the custard itself.
Big Easy Custard
There isn’t a ton of the praline topping, and we wish that some had been mixed in with the custard so that it wasn’t all gone before we got to the bottom. The pecans in the praline added a really nice crunch to an otherwise one-note texture, which was very welcome. This is also definitely a shareable dessert — while it might not seem huge, it’s dense and rich and would make a great end to a meal. It’s also a pretty decent value, since it’s shareable and only $5. Overall, we think this is a fantastic dessert — especially if you like custard or praline — and worth stopping by Port Orleans to get!
