We recently tried the updated menu at Rancho Del Zocalo, located in Frontierland at Disneyland Park. These menu items became available on September 3.

Mexican-Style Shrimp Cocktail – $12.99
Poached shrimp, tomatoes, red onions, cilantro, cucumber, celery, and spicy cocktail sauce served with crackers
Right away, it has a very fragrant smell with a lot of pepper, lime, and spice. But once we tried it, it was sweeter than we expected, likely because of the tomatoes. It’s a little spicy, but not too spicy, and very cilantro heavy. The shrimp itself is pretty good and doesn’t have a chewy texture or fishy taste. We’re not enjoying how much sauce there is compared to the shrimp, though. It’s reminiscent of a cold soup. The saltine crackers were stale and we’re not sure if this was the right type of cracker to be included with the cocktail.

Chicken Tostada Salad – $15.49
Chicken with pico de gallo, sour cream, rice, beans, cotija, guacamole, and lime cilantro-avocado dressing
The chicken is moist, well-cooked, and well-seasoned. This dish is as good as it looks. It’s a big portion and all of it tastes really fresh and really nice. The rice is a traditional Mexican rice and has a great texture. All the flavors work well together and the chicken is remarkable. This dish is not spicy.

Nachos – $14.99
Tortilla chips, beans, guajillo cheese sauce, house-made & tomatillo salsas, red jalapeños, sour cream, and guacamole
Note that these nachos do not include a protein source besides the beans, but you can add chicken or beef to these nachos for about $5 more.
The jalapeños have a strong kick to them, but there was only four of them, so you can easily move them to the side to avoid them. The nacho cheese sauce was fine, but the guacamole was the best part of the dish and we wish there was more of it. The salsa has a fire-roasted tomato flavor with some heat, but not as spicy as the jalapeños. The beans are simple refined beans, but you can’t separate them from the salsa. The dish overall is decently spicy between the jalapeños and salsa. We would say it’s a medium heat.

Kid’s Beef Taquitos – $8.99
Two taquitos filled with shredded beef served with a Cuties Mandarin Orange, applesauce, and choice of small DASANI water or small lowfat milk
The corn shell is nice and crispy on the outside. No sogginess at all, which is a plus. The shredded beef has a subtle flavor, but the texture is good. There’s also a soft refined beef flavor as well. Kids and spice-averse guests will likely enjoy this dish.

Jamaica Slushy – $8.49
This slushy is hibiscus-flavored, but for those who have never had hibiscus before, it tastes similar to cranberry-grape juice. It’s not overly sweet or bitter and there’s no artificial flavor. It’s a nice treat on a hot day.

Horchata Slushy – $8.49
This is very cinnamon-forward. The milk and cinnamon balance is exactly what you want when you have horchata. It’s a refreshing slushy.
