The “Walk in Walt’s Footsteps” guided tour returned to Disneyland Resort last month, offering guests a chance to visit Walt Disney’s apartment in the park’s firehouse.
Walk in Walt’s Footsteps Guided Tour

“Walk in Walt’s Footsteps” is $170 per person and offered at various times each day. The two-hour guided tour visits Disney California Adventure and Disneyland Park, “following” in Walt’s footsteps from 1920s Los Angeles through the creation of Disneyland. Guests get to ride select attractions and enjoy a snack box. They also receive a commemorative name tag, lanyard, and collectible pin.
An unadvertised perk is a Lightning Lane pass good for any attraction usually available with Multi Pass (i.e., not any of the Single Pass rides).

Tours kick off at the tour garden near the front of Disneyland, where guests meet their guide, receive ear pieces, and get the first of their goodies — the lanyard and name tag.

At check-in, they ask if you have any special dietary needs. If you do, they’ll give you a $10 food voucher valid at any Disney-owned dining location across the resort that expires in one year. This replaces the snack box guests get later.

Video and audio recording are not allowed during the tour.

Though guests meet at Disneyland Park, the tour begins with a walk over to Disney California Adventure. Guests participating in the tour need Disneyland Park admission for the day but not Disney California Adventure admission.

You only spend about 15 minutes in Disney California Adventure, walking down Buena Vista Street with the guide sharing details about some of the businesses, Carthay Circle, and Walt’s life.

Back at Disneyland, the guide shared a few more facts about the park, and then guests go to Walt’s apartment. This is still within the first 45 minutes of the tour.

Walt’s famous apartment is on the second floor of the Fire House on Main Street, U.S.A. A lamp is always kept lit in the center window, symbolizing Walt’s constant presence.

We were surprised the apartment was so early on the tour, rather than the grand finale. But it makes sense given the tour is going through Walt’s life in terms of each land, and you’re already on Main Street. Without giving too much away, this is the highlight of the tour.
The apartment is only accessible via a staircase, so unfortunately not all guests with mobility issues can reach it.
Guests aren’t allowed to take photos inside the apartment, but the tour guide can take a photo of your party.

The tour then continues on through the different lands, passing the Matterhorn and then heading into Adventureland. At this point, guests get to ride Jungle Cruise.
Guests are then supposed to ride the Disneyland Railroad but it broke down during our visit. Instead, they gave us a second Lightning Lane pass and just walked us over to New Orleans Square.

At this point, we got our snack box, which turned out to be a trio of Mickey beignets in a custom box.

The walk continued, heading through Fantasyland. The tour ends at “it’s a small world,” the last attraction Walt Disney dedicated, which guests get walked onto, skipping the line.

Guests get their commemorative pin when the tour wraps up. It depicts the lamp in the Fire House window with Walt’s signature inside.

Another unadvertised perk is this lithograph postcard featuring a National Geographic photo of Walt and his family inside the apartment.
