Karamell-Küche Roof Work

The ongoing roof refurbishment throughout EPCOT’s Germany Pavilion has reached Karamell-Küche, where shingles have been removed from much of the shop’s roof.

Large sections of the Karamell-Küche roof have been stripped down to a brown protective underlayer. The material is secured across the steeply pitched roof and carefully fitted around its dormer windows, decorative spires, and other architectural features.

The underlayment now covers most of the roof above the shop’s main entrance. Although the work is plainly visible overhead, Karamell-Küche remained open to guests during our visit.

Roof work also extends around the side of the building, where additional sections have been stripped of their shingles. The exposed underlayment contrasts sharply with the finished red-and-brown shingle roofs on the neighboring structures.

Elsewhere in the pavilion, both old and new brown shingles are visible at the same time. The recently installed shingles are lighter and more uniform, while the older sections are darker and more weathered. This offers a clear look at the progress of the pavilion-wide roofing project before the replacement materials have had time to age.

In our previous Germany Pavilion refurbishment update, new shingles were already installed on several other buildings, including the brightly colored red-and-brown diamond-patterned roof of Das Kaufhaus. The latest work at Karamell-Küche indicates that the project is continuing across additional sections of the pavilion.

Crews have been performing brief interior renovations on the gift shops over the past few months. Volkunst Clocks and Crafts is still closed, with several tables blocking the entrance. Weinkeller (wine cellar) is still open, but due to the ongoing exterior refurbishment in the pavilion, guests are redirected to exit through Stein Haus.
