New aerial photos provide a clearer picture of how trains will travel through the massive Monsters, Inc. door coaster under construction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Aerial photographer bioreconstruct captured the latest views of the coaster show building, which continues to rise in a former backstage Cast Member parking area behind Monstropolis.

Much of the building remains an open steel framework, but crews have installed roof decking across several sections. The different roof heights help illustrate how riders will move through the attraction.

In bioreconstruct’s annotated overview, the roof marked (1) is noticeably lower than the sections marked (2) and (3). Location (3) contains the vertical lift systems, where coaster trains will be raised more than 40 feet before launching into the confined upper portion of the building.

The track will then emerge into the somewhat wider space beneath the roof at location (2) before continuing into the significantly larger area marked (4). This progression offers one of the clearest looks yet at the relationship between the station, lift, launch, and main ride areas.

The two towering gray structures in the center of the building support the coaster’s vertical lift systems. Guests will board suspended trains near the floor of the Monsters, Inc. factory before the trains are hoisted toward the ceiling while remaining level. The seats will rotate from their sideways loading position to face forward during the roughly four-second ascent.

Once trains reach the top, they will launch into the door vault portion of the attraction. Disney previously released a rendered preview of the loading and launch sequence, demonstrating how the unusual ride system will recreate the moment bedroom doors are lifted from the scare floor in Monsters, Inc.

Additional roof structure is now rising over the loading section. The distinctive curved steel frames visible below are expected to support interior theming inspired by the factory’s scare floor. As crews enclose more of the building, these aerial photos may be among the last relatively unobstructed views of that framework.

The rounded elements resemble the “M”-shaped structures depicted in Disney’s station concept art. They began appearing at the construction site in August, when the first specialized load-station beams were installed.

Wider views emphasize the enormous scale of the structure. Workers and construction vehicles at ground level appear small beneath the dense network of steel columns, roof beams, coaster supports, and curved thematic framework.

Another photo offers a closer look at the track near the end of the ride. The curved track in the foreground will carry returning trains into the unloading area. From there, the vehicles will cycle back toward the station to begin another trip through the door vault.

The new imagery builds upon aerial views captured earlier this month, when the vertical lift towers and elevated track route were becoming easier to identify. Since then, additional roofing has begun enclosing the station and upper ride areas.

The attraction will be the first suspended roller coaster and the first vertical-lift coaster at a Disney park. Inspired by the door-vault chase from Monsters, Inc., it will suspend riders beneath the track in vehicles designed to evoke the factory’s moving bedroom doors.

Monstropolis

Mama Melrose’s closed in May 2025, followed by MuppetVision 3D and PizzeRizzo in June 2025. Though the coaster will be a brand-new building, other Muppets Courtyard/Grand Avenue structures will be reused. They will become new monstrous businesses with monstrous animals throughout.

MuppetVision 3D will be replaced by Welcome to Monstropolis! With Sulley & Mike in the renamed Glob Theater. Randy Newman created an original song for the attraction.
