Construction continues throughout Tropical Americas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, with new sheathing, painting, and other detailing work visible around Pueblo Esperanza.
Tropical Americas Construction Update
The large entrance archway near Discovery Island is beginning to disappear beneath exterior sheathing. Crews have covered a significant portion of the steel-framed structure, suggesting that the finished arch may receive a stucco-style surface rather than being constructed from solid concrete.
The framing creates a broad central arch flanked by stepped sections of varying heights. Only one side has been covered so far, leaving the metal framework and curved supports exposed across the remainder of the structure.
A green lamppost with a wide, downward-facing shade has also appeared beside one of the entrance’s rock formations. It is unclear whether this is the final fixture intended for Pueblo Esperanza. Temporary lighting is sometimes installed during construction so crews can evaluate illumination levels and placement before permanent fixtures arrive.
Nearby rock pillars have received layers of brown, gray, and earthy green paint, helping the newly sculpted surfaces match the weathered rockwork already completed elsewhere around the entrance. Scaffolding still surrounds several of the formations as finishing work continues.
Beyond the entrance, the developing mountainous backdrop and steel framework for the Casita façade remain visible above the construction walls.
Crews are also continuing to transform the former Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures gift shop. New wood framing rises around portions of the existing building, establishing different rooflines and providing the foundation for a completely redesigned Pueblo Esperanza façade.
Aerial photos from this weekend provided a much wider look at the Casita, carousel, restaurant, plaza fountain, and other projects taking shape across Tropical Americas.
Tropical Americas
Tropical Americas is scheduled to open in 2027, transforming the former DinoLand U.S.A. into Pueblo Esperanza, a fictional community inspired by the landscapes, architecture, and cultures of Central and South America.
The land will feature Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto, which will take guests inside the magical Casita; Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent, replacing DINOSAUR with an original adventure through a Maya temple; and El Carrusel de los Animalitos, a carousel featuring hand-carved Disney animal figures. The area will also include a new playground, shops, and dining locations housed within the village.
Imagineers also recently shared how years of research and material testing are helping them create the architecture, textures, and aged appearance of Pueblo Esperanza.
